End of Pre-Clinical Years!

Finally, after 2 years in medical school, I can proudly say that I've finished the first part of it; the pre-clinical years! I know there's still a looooong way to go, and this is just a tiny step ahead towards my aim to become a doctor. But of course, I'm super grateful for everything. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.

For those who don't know, most of the undergraduate medical schools in Malaysia are using the same system (sort of), where the 5 years of degree are consist of pre-clinical phase (the first 2 years) and clinical phase (the last 3 years). We'll have a test or assessment after each module, and of course, final exams at the end of each semester, like usual. And then, we'll also have a big exam called the Professional Exam at the end of each of the phases I mentioned earlier. Simply say, this exam will basically cover all the topics we learned during that particular phase. Yup, we just have so many exams. Lol.

So yes, I just had my first Professional Exam, and alhamdulillah, I passed! It was indeed a challenging journey. Studying and revising all the topics we've learned for the past 2 years, from the 1st semester until the 4th semester. There were literally more than 400 topics!! To be frank, I undeniably didn't manage to read all of them. Although they gave one whole month of 'study weeks', it's still not quite enough to cover all of the topics (for me, at least). I still had to skip a few of them, especially the basic ones. I slept probably only around 3-4 hours a day (especially during the last 2 weeks before the exam) and had to drink coffee every single day to the point that I was so sick of it. Hahahah.

Not to mention, everything was online. Only our 1st semester was entirely face-to-face. The 2nd one was partially online. But then our 2nd Year (the 3rd & 4th semesters) were fully online. We are the first batch that had to take our Professional Exam online and not face-to-face. And yes, that one whole month of study weeks was just me, alone in my bedroom. I do have a study group or discussions with my friends through Discord, sometimes. But most of the time, especially in those stressful times, people prefer to be alone. Everyone has their own pace and style of studying. But of course, study groups are very beneficial too.

This is how the situation typically looks during our online exams (credits to my friend, Raziana, for this screenshot). This one was taken during our 2nd last day of the Professional Exam. We are separated into different Google Meet, with around 10 students each group with an examiner. We would have two cameras, as you can see. One is the laptop camera facing us, and the other is viewing our surroundings, mainly to see our laptop screen and our table (of course, to make sure no one's cheating).

For me, ODL is not challenging because we can't study with our friends, but it's mainly because we lack that general face-to-face, social interaction with them. When you're in your hostel or college, you don't necessarily have to study with your friends, but friends are there to make the journey more enjoyable and less painful. You can study alone, but you would still have your friends physically present whenever you need something. It's like a form of moral support.

Whatever it is, I'm very grateful that I survived this ODL journey and the battle towards the Professional Exam. I wouldn't say that it was very hard, but it would obviously be more bearable if my friends were around. I'm still so glad I have amazing friends here in my medical school. Of course, we still catch up with each other (virtually) from time to time during that one month of study weeks, making sure that each of us is doing well and not near being insane. Hahahah.

Overall, alhamdulillah, all the hard work paid off. My whole batch passed the Professional Exam. All of us could proceed into the clinical years. I cried; I'm sooooo happy. The fact that each one of us passed and no one failed made me felt even happier. It was like a miracle because usually, we would have a few students retake some papers during our regular end-of-semester final exams.

Again,
Alhamdulillah for everything.
Currently, I'm hella enjoying my semester break! After that very highly pressured phase of my life, I can finally breathe now. Hahahah. In fact, we had our semester break extended to almost 2 months because we needed to wait for our senior batch (the current 3rd Year batch) to finish their major clinical postings before we could enter and start ours. They had theirs a bit delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sadly.

Oh, and yes, as all of us are aware, ODL is finally ending. We will be back at our universities soon! Yay or nay? I will definitely miss being near to my family all the time, especially my baby (my cat, lol). But of course, I do miss face-to-face learning too. I guess it's already time for us to be back to normal. I feel like I've already adapted so well with this ODL thingy, but still, obviously, it couldn't stay forever like this. That's the reality.

Okay, this post is getting waaaay too long. I feel like I still have so many things to talk about!! Hahahah. Maybe next time, I guess? Take care and stay safe always, guys! xx

Last but not least,
Goodbye, pre-clinical. Hello, clinical!

Tips for Better Sleep

For many working class people, sleep is a luxury. Many people in the world choose to work overtime or take on multiple jobs to survive instead of getting enough rest.

However, sleep affects our mood. Short or interrupted sleep may cause irritability and make us unproductive during the day. To help you sleep faster and get better-quality sleep, here are some easy yet helpful steps you can follow.

1. Have a relaxing bath or shower

Washing away the day’s stress can help you prepare your mind for sleep. Nothing also beats the feeling of laying on your bed after having done your entire nighttime routine and having only sleep on your agenda.

Scientifically, these also help condition the body for sleep. According to Discover Magazine, taking a warm bath or a shower an hour or two before going to bed aids the body’s natural flow into sleep by lowering your body temperature.

2. Use essential oils

Introducing essential oils to your nighttime routine is an economical and convenient form of therapy. Certain scents can put the body in a calm state and prepare it for sleep. According to The Sleep Doctor, this is due to the emotions and memories we associate these scents with.

Vanilla, lavender, jasmine, rose, citrus, and sandalwood are only a few examples of scents used to induce better sleep. To use these, you can add a few drops to your bath, apply a diluted solution directly to your body, put it in a diffuser, or use it as a linen spray.

3. Turn off your electronics

Blue light emitted by electronic devices causes the brain to think that it is still daytime, making it reduce the amount of melatonin it produces and keeping you from sleeping.

For this, you should turn off your television as well as other sources of bright light two hours before bed. If this can’t be helped, you can also install apps that put a blue light filter on your screen, such as f.lux for your desktop or laptop.

4. Make yourself comfortable

Sometimes, an uncomfortable sleeping space is actually what makes it hard for people to sleep. A comfortable mattress is a great investment that improves your day-to-day wellbeing. Some people even go as far as to buy weighted blankets for the feeling of security during sleep. However, if you’re on a budget, clean beddings should be enough.

For people who wake up feeling too hot at night, it may also be helpful to check if your air conditioner or fan is working as well as it should. To get uninterrupted sleep, have your cooling device checked by a professional repairman. Regular maintenance check-ups help appliances work better and last longer, say the experts at Ceiling Fan Repair Singapore.

5. Check with a doctor

If your difficulty in sleeping lasts for weeks at a time, it is best to go to a doctor to see if you have insomnia. They can prescribe you a melatonin supplement for you to fall asleep faster and have better sleep quality.

If you snore loudly, wake up several times at night, and you are easily fatigued in the morning, ENT Doctor Singapore suggests you may have obstructive sleep apnea instead. This needs urgent medical action, so see a specialist right away.

Anyway, these are only a few quick ways to sleep faster and without interruption. If you’d like to improve your sleeping quality for the long term, however, there are also permanent lifestyle changes you could do such as exercising and eating better.

Easy & Healthy Binge-Watching Snacks

Since we’ve been stuck in our homes due to the pandemic, binge-watching movies or series has turned into the only escape from reality for most of us. And if you’re like any regular person, you may have food beside you as you watch 80% of the time.

Unfortunately, a lot of our favorite binge-watching snacks are unhealthy. They are packed with carbs, sodium, and, ultimately, junk. This, plus the fact that we may be sitting in front of our screens for a long time isn’t good for our bodies.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t indulge in some good films from time to time. However, to go easier on your body, you may want to go for healthier binge-watching snacks like the ones in the list below.

1. Fruits and nuts

There is not much preparation needed for fruits and nuts. You can just eat them as they are, provided that you’ve bought pre-roasted nuts at the market. In case you mistakenly bought raw nuts, you can still easily roast them on your stove for a few minutes. If you’re not fond of certain fruits or nuts, you can even mix and match based on your preference.

If you don’t want to go through any hassle at all, there are also ready-made trail mixes of dried fruits and assorted nuts available at grocery stores. These are just as easy to grab as your regular junk food.

2. Vegetable sticks

Trick yourself into eating your veggies by munching on vegetable sticks as you catch up on your favorite series. The chances are, you’ll be too focused on what you’re watching to even realize how many carrot sticks you have eaten.

For this, you can have any vegetable that can be eaten raw. Cucumber, celery, and carrots are the most common. If you find these too bland by themselves, Healthline suggests having them with easy dips such as Greek yoghurt, hummus, and mashed peas.

3. Yoghurt bowl

If you’re planning on starting your binge-watching in the morning, a yoghurt bowl can be a nutritious breakfast option that still allows you to mix and match the ingredients as you like.

You can opt to use any yoghurt you prefer and add fruits, granola, nuts, seeds, and other toppings, such as cinnamon and toasted coconut flakes. However, it is better to research the benefits of these health foods to personalize your yoghurt bowl to suit your body’s needs.

For instance, a high-fiber yoghurt bowl with antioxidant fruits and seeds can help people with slow metabolism, say the experts at Gastroenterologist Singapore. You just have to identify your health goals and come up with a recipe based on which foods help you achieve those goals.

This healthy binge-watching snack option can also be prepared the night before your Netflix marathon, by the way, which makes it all the more convenient.

And if you’re not into yoghurt bowls, you may find fruit and yoghurt popsicles more enjoyable! To make this, simply put your fruit and yoghurt mixture into a popsicle mold, then freeze overnight.

4. Fries

Yes, you read it right. You can still enjoy one of your go-to binge-watching snacks. There are just a few tweaks you need to do to make it healthier.

For this, you have to air fry your sliced potatoes. Air frying with little to no oil instead of deep frying cuts back on calories and fat, instantly making your food healthier than normal.

Once it’s cooked, put little salt on your fries. This doesn’t mean you can’t put other spices on your fries for flavor. If you’re a fan of Cajun seasoning, Davita has a salt-free recipe you can easily make at home. There are also other salt-free seasoning recipes you can find on the Internet.

5. Fresh fruit juices

Instead of consuming unhealthy amounts of sugar with soda, go for fresh fruit juices. Watermelon and orange are some of the fruits that can give you the most juice. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can also mix and match fruits and even add some greens.

Some people also enjoy fruit smoothies, which are just as simple to prepare. It’s just like making fruit juice, but instead of juicing, you blend ingredients with ice and milk, yoghurt, or low-fat ice cream.

If you don’t own a juicer or a blender or if you are simply too busy to make an effort, coconut water is a good example of a healthy drink you can find in stores.

As a final note, keep in mind that it’s usually best to only make as much of these snacks as you can feasibly finish in one sitting. If you make a mistake and whip up a little too much of any recipe, pop it in the fridge immediately!

Specifically, the ones with milk and yoghurt can spoil easily. You have to keep them around temperatures of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.

Here’s a hot tip we got from our fridge repairman from Fridge Repair Singapore on this topic, by the way. We called him in to ask why our milk was always spoiling even with the fridge on: you have to ensure your fridge is set at the right temp and keep milk/yoghurt towards the back of the fridge, to combat what happens when you open your fridge door a lot!

Anyway, that wraps up our post for today. Remember, staying healthy doesn’t always mean going hard on a diet and a workout. At times like this, doing the best we can is already commendable -- so feel free to binge-watch and snack, as long as you snack healthy.

Tips for a Comfortable Quarantine Life

Life hasn’t been anywhere near normal this year, with an ongoing global pandemic. Movement control orders are still being given each time the number of cases rises in an area. No matter how much we want to live our normal lives, we have to follow restrictions to keep ourselves and others safe.

The coronavirus has taken away a lot of important people, experiences, and milestones from us. However, there are still many ways to stay sane in the comfort of our homes.

That’s what we’ll talk about here. Below are some tips for a comfortable home life in quarantine.

1. Stock up on food you need

Stock up on two weeks’ to a month’s worth of groceries to avoid going back and forth to your local supermarket. If you haven’t been able to have home cooked meals before, now is the time to explore. Buy various meats of different cuts, a variety of vegetables, and fruits you have never before tried.

To change up your menu every now and then, you can also browse recipes online for easy-to-cook food from different cuisines.

2. Have basic medicine at hand

Nowadays, it could be difficult to go outdoors even when you need it the most, so this tip is especially important if you’re living alone. Besides basic supplies for cuts and burns, Mayo Clinic suggests having the following medicines in your first aid kit:

  • Pain relievers
  • Cough and cold medications
  • Antihistamine
  • Antacids
  • Anti-diarrhea medication
  • Laxative
  • Hydrocortisone cream

You can also personalize your medicine kit depending on your health concerns.

3. Make sure home appliances are in tip-top shape

Under lockdown, we are obligated to stay home for the majority of the time. When your life is restricted to your home, chores can feel duller than ever.

Luckily, various home appliances exist to make house chores much easier. For a seamless home life, it is important to make sure that home appliances are working as they should.

The moment you notice something going awry with an appliance, get it seen to as well. That’s because repair costs tend to balloon after an issue has already worsened… and home repair appointments are now harder to book than ever due to rising demand, say the experts at Washing Machine Repair Singapore

4. Connect

Technology has become even more valuable these days. Because of our devices and the Internet, we get to connect with our loved ones even from halfway across the globe.

Since the pandemic is keeping us from seeing our friends and family, virtual get-togethers are our best option. You can make virtual hangouts fun by playing online games with friends or having a movie night with family.

5. Disconnect

Although technology is extremely useful during these times, being online 24/7, working from home, and seeing the news can also be very emotionally draining. To prevent a burnout, unplug your WiFi once in a while.

Some alternative activities you can do offline are reading, bullet journaling, and yoga. If you’re not into very slow activities, you can also simply turn off your work-related apps and play games or watch a movie on your TV, the staff at TV Repair Singapore suggest.

It can certainly be challenging to live a rich, healthy home life under quarantine. But with a little self-control and respect for your own personal time, many things can be done to make the lockdown a lot easier to manage.

Life Update, Again?

Hello everyone! As always, after months of leaving this blog, I finally come back just to 'update' my life. Nasib tak mereput blog ni. AHAHAHAH. Anyway, mind me for using bahasa rojak in this post. I kinda felt like I was being too formal after all this time. So I want to write more casually after this. Hehe. Bare with me.

Let's just get straight to the point. Life update?

In my previous post, I was complaining about how I haven't even start my 2nd semester yet. Everything was being dragged and dragged. But here I am, in my 2nd year of medical school! HAHA. 3rd semester, basically. So yeah, I didn't update a single thing on this blog while I was in my 2nd semester. Why?

Well, basically, a few weeks after I published that post, after so many announcements from KPT and my university itself, we finally start our online class. Since everyone was trying to adapt with this new-norm life, our timetable was so damn unorganized at first. Not only the students were confused, but so were the lecturers! Haha. I would say it was hectic, at least that was what I thought before entering my 2nd year.

As I, myself, was also trying my best to adapt with this online-learning student life, I guess I didn't find any time to update this blog. Sigh.

Anywaaaaay,

Long story short, since the curve was kinda flattened around August-September, our faculty decided to have the final exams face-to-face. So yes, I did go back to college for like 2 weeks, just for the finals. Then of course, semester break! But it was only for 2 weeks as well, since we've been dragging a lot since April. Haha. Need to rush back on track!

Not only us, but every students (I guess) was supposed to be back in their universities and start our new semester. No more online classes! Back to physical classes, just with extra SOPs to follow.

But then, kita hanya mampu merancang .....

Boom. There comes the third wave. I'm not going to talk much about this, I believe that everyone knows already (#RakyatJagaRakyat #ytjt). Haha. So yeah, as predicted, everything's back online again. Welcome back into the ODL life!

My everyday view! My work space, from dusk 'till dawn gitu. The one that witnessed all my mental breakdowns due to ODL. Haha! Not any fancy or aesthetic, though. But I love my desk. Hehe.

Ohh anyway, yes I finally passed my 1st year! Alhamdulillah! I'm currently in my 3rd week of this new semester in 2nd year.  This time, everything is quite organized than previous semester, since everyone has already adapt with this ODL life. The schedule, the timing, everything; which is why I could spare some time writing this post.

HOWEVER, although I said this semester everything seems organized, obviously our syllabus is even more packed than last year. Since this is our last year in pre-clinicals, we have a research project to do and of course, Professional Exam 1. Ya Allah I'm so scared haha. It's basically a one huge exam that kinda covers everything we've learned for the past 2 years in medical school. The last exam in the pre-clinical years, before entering clinical years (3rd-5th year).

Well ...

That's basically it. My life update. OMG, I hope you guys are not bored of me talking about studies and only studies haha. I guess that's what my life is all about. HAHAHA.

Just kidding.

Of course I did other things as well. One of the things that I do a lot during this pandemic, from March until today, is online shopping. I swear it's so sickening, guys. Shopee is like a social media to me, I open it almost every day! HAHAHAH. I'd receive at least 5-10 parcels per month. It is such a bad habit, I know. I was actually thinking of sharing about some of my top favorite online purchases that I made during this whole pandemic. Oh I hope I'll have time to write that.

And that's that for this life update (again). I hope everyone is doing fine out there. Stay safe, as always! Remember, kita belum menang.

'Till then! <3

Quarantine Thoughts

How's everyone doing? Happy quarantine, guys. Is it Day-9? I honestly can't even keep track of this since I've been spending most of my time at home even before all this Restricted Movement Order (RMO) or Movement Control Order (MCO) thingy.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was on my semester break for one whole month. Besides going to Ipoh for a few days, all I did was sleep, eat, play games, cook, bake and watching movies. Repeat, every single day for that one freaking month. Lol. Since I'm too broke to go out, I just love being at home.

But now... guess what? I, myself, can't even believe that I'm still at home now. This week, this particular week, is supposed to be the 1st week of my 2nd Semester in medical school. Seriously. I'm supposed to be at college now, but yup, it's not happening. At first, it was quite 'exciting' to have some kind of extended semester break, but to rethink of it, there are lots of cons as well.

I've been really preparing physically and mentally to start my student life again after this full one month of holiday. It was not that easy, trust me. Don't get me wrong, I love my life as a student, it's just, I'm so going to miss home and those moments of doing absolutely nothing. No stress, no pressure, nothing! Anyway, yeah, I'm not going back to my university any time soon. Not until this pandemic is over. My preparation was a waste, I guess? Hahahah.

At first, before all this quarantine phase, most of the universities in Malaysia have started to cancel all physical classes and lectures, also all programs and activities. For my university (UPM), initially, there was going to be online classes or "kuliah maya" to replace all the canceled classes. So technically, I'm still starting my 2nd Semester this week, but at home. I'm still going back to my student life this week, it's just that I can be in pyjamas while listening to my lectures! Lol.

However, when the government announced the RMO / MCO, the university had to cancel everything, including the online classes. Can you believe that? As I said before, there are pros and cons of this. Pros; additional 2 weeks of holiday for us, woohoo! Cons; lots of classes to be replaced soon, meaning that our schedule is going to be even more packed, hence, more stress! Aha!

Yay or nay?

Then, the university decided that normal classes will begin on the 6th of April. But now... I guess everyone's aware that the RMO has been extended until 14th April. Ya Allah. I knew it. I knew they're going to extend it. Seeing the number of COVID-19 patients increasing by hundreds every day just scares me.

It makes me overthink a lot about what's going to happen next to all of us. Not just the students, but all Malaysians. So far, my university haven't release any statements yet. Hence, I don't even know when exactly I need to back in college. So many 'what if' questions playing around in my head.

It was quite frustrating for me at first. I'm really worried about my studies.

Nevertheless, I believe that everything happens for a reason. Maybe Allah is trying to show us something, maybe a lesson. Or maybe our planet just needs a break for a little while. Everything happens under Allah's plan, right? To all the COVID-19 patients out there, or anyone with a friend or relative that has been infected, please stay strong. May Allah bless you guys with better health.

Not to forget, shout out to all the front-liners out there who has been through a lot since the beginning. To all the doctors, nurses, volunteers, whoever you are, thank you so much for the sacrifice. May Allah protect all of you. May Allah reward you guys for all the good deeds.

The best thing that all of us can do now is just stay at home and pray. Stay at home, and pray. I know for some people, it's hard to not going out. I'm also getting super duper bored already, doing the same routine every single day. Still, this is the only way and the best that we could do to stop the spread of the virus. And also, don't forget to always sanitize your hand! Wear a mask if needed.

Image

All in all, I pray that this COVID-19 Pandemic will be over soon. Not just for Malaysia, but the whole world. I heard that China is getting better day by day, which is good. Italy is not getting much better yet, sadly. Please don't stop praying for Malaysia and the world. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon, at least, before Ramadan. Aamiin inshaAllah.

First Time Trying MyeongDong Topokki!

I always love Korean food! The only legit Korean restaurents in Malaysia that I have tried before are Sopoong. By legit, I mean, like real authentic Korean food restaurant. I have tried other Korean restaurants like Kfry, Kyochon, and Chicken Plus, but those are like Korean chicken kind of restaurant, which is different. You get me?

Last week, I finally get to try another Korean restaurant which is MyeongDong Topokki! I've heard of it multiple times already, I also watched Syedot ASMR and Isaac Osman mukbang videos where they try the food from this restaurant (yes, I love wathing mukbangs and ASMRs). I was craving for it so bad.

How I Spent My Holiday Break

It's the 3rd week of my semester break! As I said in one of my previous posts, I legit spent my 1st week of holiday by sleeping and sleeping. I didn't even try to do anything else. I was... tired. Anyway, starting from the 2nd week, I'm back being a bit energized! That's why y'all are seeing me updating this blog. Lol.

Short Ipoh Trip

Yoooo. I'm back in KL! Home sweet home. I went to Ipoh for a while with my family. It was short, not that much but I feel like sharing some pictures. Hahah!

Semester Break Update!

Hewwo peeps. Yeap, I'm still alive. LOL. I hope everyone's doing fine. I guess it's too late already but I'm still going to say this so, happy new year everyone! It's 2020. Wow. And yes, it's March already! That is absolutely SO DAMN fast. It felt like 2019 was just yesterday. Am I the only one?

Anyway, as I mentioned in the post title above, yeap, I'm on my semester break! Finally! After almost 6 months, I survived my 1st Semester in medical school! Phew. I'm trying my best not to write a whole essay about it. But it was definitely hard. Of course.

As what everyone says, life gets harder and harder as your age increases. I always thought SPM was already so, so exhausting. I still remembered how struggled I was during SPM. God knows. But now while I'm in this medical degree, as I look back, SPM is really, really just the beginning.

Back to my 1st Semester in medical school journey. Of course, it is so much more harder. No more calculations (which I actually quite enjoy during high school and pre-uni) like Mathematics and Physics. It's just Biology and Chemistry. In fact, even more than just the basic Biology and Chemistry, which of course requires a lot of memorizing. Like, a lot.

Despite all of that, alhamdulillah, I enjoy it. I enjoy what I'm learning. It is what I'm interested in and  I believe, what I'm passionate about. I love it. I love learning about the human body. It can be so mind-blowing sometimes, and I love that. Alhamdulillah for everything.

During the study week, the struggle was real. Earlier during that week, I can still sleep at least 4 hours a day. Towards the end of the study week, as the exam week is getting closer and closer, I only slept 1 hour a day. Took quite a few panadols, and vomited in the morning before the exam. I'm really not that kind of person who vomits easily tho. I wasn't even like that during SPM and pre-uni. It was just too much that I just literally got to that point where I needed to vomit. Lol.

Anyway, if some of you guys don't know, for degrees like medical and dental degree, we don't have pointers. It is either pass or fail. Alhamdulillah, I passed my 1st Semester. Hard work paid off, definitely. I remembered calling my mom after the results were out, and I was crying like hell. My mom, who is a doctor herself, laughed at me and was like "Baru 1st sem. Belum final year, belum HO lagi!! Dah takyah nangis over sangat!!" HAHAHAHA. I mean, of course she was so happy for me as well since she knows how I struggled, she was just teasing me and reminding me that I have a long journey ahead.

Then I realized that, yes, it is just the 1st semester. I have another 9 semesters to go. Another 4 and a half years. Not only that, of course we medical graduates have to go through the housemanship phase, only then we will actually get the real licence as doctors. Yeap, loooooong way to go.

May Allah ease my journey. InshaAllah, aamiin.

Here's a picture of my whole batch, MD24 💓

Enough of that. Damn it, I shouldn't be talking about studies during semester break!! Hahahah. We have 1 month and this is the only time we can actually do everything else other than studying. I'm now on my 2 week of the break. Sorry for the late update. My 1st week was full of sleeping. I just, sleep. Since I was lack of sleep so badly during the last 2 weeks of the semester. So... yeah.

By the way, I know my blog is full of study-related posts. I'm so sorry if I bore you guys. I'm really trying my best to think of something else to talk about. Lol.

That's all for now. I will make sure my next post won't be a study-related one, okay! Hahahah. Till then, thank you for reading. See you when I see you!

Hello, Degree Life!

Hellooooowwww earthlings. What a sudden update. I was actually thinking of shutting down this blog already. Not sure about that yet. What do you guys think? Hmmm. Okay so, I'm going to make this very quick, since I'm having quite a lot of assignments to do this week. I'm literally crying inside. I just finished Week 3. Lol.

Spent months and months at home, until 1st September 2019, I finally started my Degree life. Phew. After going through several interviews and the long wait for the results, I managed to secure my place for a Degree course that I've always dreamed of which is, Medicine! Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.

I'm currently in my Semester 1, 4th Week of degree in Doctor of Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia. It is under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. Located beside Hospital Serdang. Hehe. Yeap, bye-bye Universiti Malaya! Lol. Obviously, UM's Medical School was my first choice since I took my foundation in PASUM, but Allah knows better. I believe being in UPM's Medical School is what best for me. And I'm still beyond grateful for everything.

An update on my previous Foundation studies, I managed to graduate PASUM with an overall CGPA 4.0! Again, alhamdulillah. I couldn't be more grateful for what I've achieved. It was such an exhausting yet amazing journey. I miss my Foundation life in UM so much, especially my friends. They were the ones who helped me a lot to survive PASUM. Most of my friends managed to enter the course that they aimed for, and I'm so damn proud of them!

Anyways, you can read more about my Foundation life here.

I miss my class in PASUM, HE1, so damn much. Ugh.

Anyways, as for now, I'm really enjoying my life in UPM. I got lots of new, amazing friends. My housemates are awesome. I also have some old friends that came from PASUM as well. Studies? For now, so far so good. Everything is still fine, since we are still learning the first module which is Human Biology. Very basic, we've learned most of the topics during foundation. Just refreshing them back.

Not going to lie. Of course, I'm quite excited yet so scared. I've always enjoyed learning Biology, especially about the human body. But we all know that this course I'm currently taking is quite a tough one. With 5 years of study and only 3 weeks of Semester breaks, not to forget the packed schedule as well. And so many other challenges not only during the degree, but also the life as a doctor itself. Wow.

We all don't know what's going to happen next. I'm just praying that I would survive these 5 years in medical school. Despite all those negative things I've heard, I hope I can make it through. After all, nothing comes easy, right? Whatever it is, I'm so grateful to have supportive family members and friends.

Again, alhamdulillah. God bless.

Meet my new degree batchmates, MD24.

To all my friends and '00 buddies out there, all the best! Every course has its own challenges. And to everyone else too, of course, good luck in whatever you guys are working on! I'm rooting for you guys!

Always remember to stay positive and work smart. Don't push yourself too much. Remember to have time for yourself too. Find the best way for you to study, and find the best way for you to release your stress as well. Time management, of course.

Oh, and the most important thing is to maintain a good relationship with God. Don't ever leave Him behind, because He'll never leave you behind. That's the key. Have a good relationship with people around you as well, especially your family, friends and lecturers.

Please do pray for me, guys. Wish me luck! I really hope I will survive this medical school with ease. InshaAllah. Aamiin, ya Rabb.

Here's a du'a that I always practice. I would recite it every single time, every single day and night. Ever since my SPM journey, until today. It might sounds simple and typical, but for me, it really helps a lot. Alhamdulillah.

Thank you so much for reading. Feel free to leave any comments down below. I would love to update more whenever I have time. Now, back to reality! Assignments are waiting for me!

'Till then, see you when I see you!
xoxo

7 Keys to Increase Productivity

We’ve all had those days when we feel like we are not accomplishing anything no matter how hard we work. Looming deadlines, increasing workload, multitasking and stress could all disrupt a person’s productivity. “Work smarter, not harder” has become a famous motto among the workforce. And this statement actually has merit. Sometimes, when we wear too many hats, take on too much work, instead of becoming more productive, our productivity actually decreases. So what can we do to increase our productivity?

1. Have a healthy breakfast… or skip it!
I don’t mean to confuse you, but there are studies showing that skipping the most important meal of the day can benefit various brain functions. Intermittent fasting has been gaining popularity lately, and there are scientific studies to back it up. However, if you want to give this a try, it is best to ask for a doctor or a nutritionist’s advice first. For anything to work, one has to have the know-how and the right motivation. On the other hand, if you are a huge fan of breakfast and could not possibly start a day without it, by all means, eat! Fuel your body with the right food. Make healthy choices.

2. Take that coffee break
Though it might be tempting to just keep plugging away at work and skip your breaks in order to meet your deadlines, it would not be a very good idea. You need to relax and take a breather. This will give your brain a much needed break and you a chance to walk around and enjoy a nice cup of joe, maybe even socialize with your other harried co-workers.

3. CBD Oil
Adderall has been making the rounds around colleges and even work places. However, if you prefer a more natural approach to boosting your concentration and productivity, why not give CBD oil a try. It has been known to increase alertness, help calm nerves, and boost your mood. So when you find yourself stressed with your head all over the place, why not try popping a CBD gummy, or some tincture, or even straight up CBD oil to help ease your stress and calm your nerves. Unlike its addictive cousin, THC, CBD will not get you stoned or slow you down.

4. Don’t multitask
Multitasking is not something the human brain is built for. It has proven to cause loss of productivity. Doing too many things at once will take away your concentration from the crucial things that need doing. This will make your work prone to errors and cost you time that you were trying to save by multitasking in the first place. Do one thing at a time before moving on to the next task. This way you can ensure each task is accomplished properly. Try doing the tasks that take the least amount of time to accomplish first. This will get these tasks out of the way and allow you to focus on the more complicated ones.

5. Take exercise breaks
Isn’t it ironic that a post about being productive is talking about breaks a lot? That’s because taking breaks in between tasks is a good way resetting your brain and preparing it for the whole new task ahead. Exercising will send a rush of much needed oxygen to your brain and will help loosen your muscles that might have bunched up from getting the previous task done. Taking a brief walk, or a short stretch, will allow your brain to stop thinking about work and “breathe”. This will help bring your focus back to where it is supposed to be – your looming tasks.

6. Use tools
Using online tools or apps to track your work and tasks for the day is one easy way of getting your day organized. When you have your day organized, you won’t need to spend extra time trying to remember what to do next; you would already have it laid out for you. Most of these tools are free and can be linked to your personal or work email. Just make sure that the apps abide by your company rules and risk profile.

7. Say no to meetings
Meetings take time. And a lot of the time, these meetings are not even really necessary. If you have a lot of things to do, and someone schedules a meeting, try to find out if your presence is necessary in the meeting. Or if the items in the agenda could be discussed through email, that would be a better venue. You only get so many hours in a day, after all.

End of Foundation!

HELLOOOOO EARTHLINGS. HAHAHAHAH. So, based on the title, I guess y'all already know what I'm going to talk about. Yes gang, I just finished my Foundation in Biological Science Programme at the University of Malaya. FINALLY. MERDEKA!!! No more Asasi.

Unboxing My 2019 Planner

Yay! I'm on a holiday again. Our break starts a day earlier since UM is in WP Kuala Lumpur, and, today is Hari Wilayah. This is probably the last holiday for us this semester. There are SO FREAKING MANY big events coming soon. This semester would be a 100 times more hectic than the first one.

Since this semester is going to be even more packed, I decided to start using a planner this year. I can't even remember when was the last time I actually had one. Lol! I've actually received this planner weeks ago, earlier in January. The pictures here have been taken ever since that time. It's just me who didn't have time to update about it.

2018: A Year To Remember

I took this picture. Hehe.

I know this is a bit late, it should've been posted in earlier 2019. My bad! I was quite busy earlier this month because we had our mid-semester test. So, I just finished the exams and now I'm finally home! A short, 1-week mid-semester break (yup, our mid-sem break is literally only 1 week). Oh well, I only have 4 months left before foundation ends.

Let's talk about the past (lol). I know, past is past but why not? 2018 was honestly one of the best years of my life. I met a lot of new people, been to new places, got some new stuff, and a freaking driver's license (best thing ever)! What an amazing year, a year that I will never forget.

JANUARY

Had my first part-time job! I worked at Famous Amos, Melawati Mall for 5 months. These are my work colleagues, Kak Sya & Kak Yana. I honestly miss working here so bad. It was a very new thing for me. Sometimes it was so fun, sometimes it was quite painful. I guess that's what working is like, right? But still, I really miss those times where I get to eat those delicious cookies for free, every day to the point where I was so sick of them. Whatever it is, working there was an amazing experience for me.

FEBRUARY

My little brother's first day in MRSM. He is my youngest sibling and the only one who got into a boarding school. So, it was our first time, quite a sad moment for us. We didn't really expect him to get the offer but alhamdulillah he did! We were very proud of him but so sad as well. I was the only one who cried during that day, lol. He is in MRSM Tun Abdul Razak, also known as MRSM Pekan located in Pahang.

MARCH

I'm sorry I looked ugly here, but yayyy for holidays! I went to Hong Kong with my family and of course, gotta drop by Disneyland! It was a wonderful place. I've always love theme parks. The one I enjoyed the most was the night parade. Let me tell you, it was BEAUTIFUL. Very, very well-planned. I miss it so much! I've recorded a full video of the parade but it was too long, I can't upload it here.

SPM Results Day! Of course, I will never forget that moment. I've never cried so hard in front of many people before! It was truly embarrassing. Oh well, alhamdulillah for everything. Honestly, it wasn't really for me but for my beloved parents. Alhamdulillah. I'm very proud of all my batchmates, especially my clique, Awaw!

APRIL

Went on a date with my mom! This is our first time going on a vacation without my dad and my brothers. Since I'm the first and only daughter in our family, I'm quite close with my mom. She was kind of sad that I'm leaving for university soon so she decided to bring me to Japan! Also as a gift for my SPM results. We went there during the first week of Spring. The sakura blooms so well. I didn't go to Tokyo, but Osaka. It was an amazing trip and I really, really miss Japan. Badly.

After 5 months of trying, I finally got my driver's license! Alhamdulillah, I've been waiting for sooooo long. Fyi, I started my class in December. Then I failed, like, 2 times. Seriously. I failed both the circuit and the road test at first. Then, the next one, I only passed the road test. What a waste, lol! Honestly, it was still a great experience and I'm so happy I get to drive now! Hehe.

MAY

Since all of us are continuing our student life in different pathways soon, we decided to go on a short trip together! Here are my cliques, Awaw. We've been together since Form 2 (2014) and they are literally the only best friends I've ever had in high school. There are actually 7 of us but one of us couldn't join the trip. We didn't go far, tho. We randomly searched for a nice Airbnb somewhere in KL, with a swimming pool. At least we got to hang out for 3 days 2 nights together. Here's a picture of us riding bicycles around Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.

JUNE

Raya! 2018's Aidilfitri was one of the best ones I've ever had. Well, our family rarely got the chance to take a good picture like this together. And we also rarely have an actual colour theme. Well, this year we chose to wear dark blue! This was taken at my kampung in Petaling Jaya (not really a kampung area but my grandparents' house is there, so yeah).

JULY

My journey as a foundation student begins! Here are my lovely roommates. The tallest one on the right has actually moved out from PASUM, she got another scholarship offer. She's now in Kolej MARA and there are only 3 people in my room. I love them, I'm honestly so grateful that they are my roommates and not some other people. They're the ones who will cheer me up whenever I had a bad day.

AUGUST

Nothing much but here's a picture I took this month. My classmates (excluding the boys)! I swear to God that they are the best. We have lots of lovely memories together, we clicked in so well. They're the ones who are so helpful whenever it comes to studies, homework, assignments and others. We worked together a lot.

SEPTEMBER

Celebrating Merdeka & Hari Malaysia with them! My college held this event to celebrate these special days. I wish there were fireworks but oh well. The performances were great. There are so many talented people here at my college. Singing, acting, name it! My friend in the middle performed as well.

OCTOBER

Some of you might have seen this picture. Hehe. After weeks and months of discussions and meetings, our first event went very well! Feed The Need 1.0: Kids Fun Fest. Alhamdulillah. I'm very happy with the outcome. Our team is spectacular, we got compliments from the Felos and other people for our teamwork.

NOVEMBER

Had my final semester examinations and then, of course, semester break! Again, 1 week only (duh). Since it was also a school holiday, my family and I went to Sabah! That's me featuring Mount Kinabalu at the back. And that other picture was taken by me at Tanjung Aru Beach, one of the best places to watch sunsets in Sabah. To my giveaway winners, if you guys are wondering why there was a Sabah souvenir in your mystery boxes, it was because of this trip that I had last November! Hehe.

DECEMBER

Semester 2 begins. Again, after lots of meetings, finally we had our second volunteering program, Feed The Need 2.0: Health Care. It was a success as well, alhamdulillah. We are so happy to get to help the people in need, and also gaining new experiences from time to time.

And finally, a full, proper picture of my class, HE1! Can y'all see that theme? The guys were wearing white while the girls were wearing black with different shades of hijabs, forming like a rainbow (sort of) effect. Lol! That one in the middle is our class mentor, Dr Ungku.

WOW. That's pretty much a lot, right? There are actually more things I want to share regarding 2018 but this is already too much, I guess. About my Hong Kong, Japan, and Sabah trips, I wanted to make separate posts for each of them but it's kind of too late. I wish I could share more about those trips, especially Japan.

As you guys can see, there are lots of different faces in all these pictures I've posted. I really, really met a lot of new people this year. Honestly, I was quite introvert before. Like really. After having a part-time job, I learned to communicate even more. I'm now a bit more extrovert. Entering PASUM, I was really afraid I won't have friends (lol, but alhamdulillah, turns out I have many now! I have more friends that are not in any of these pictures I've posted.

Sums up, 2018 was amazing. I learned a lot. I gained so many new experiences in different places. I achieved a lot. Alhamdulillah for everything. Thank you to every single person who made my 2018 great. May 2019 bring new happiness, new goals, new achievements and a lot of new inspirations on your life. Wishing you a year fully loaded with happiness.

I guess it's already too late to say this but I don't care, so, HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS! 💘
